What was the last really great book you read? Why?

Just Mercy: It articulates the failings of the US’ criminal justice system through the lens of (sometimes completely innocent) people on death row. To me, the justice lens is an interesting one to apply to international development when we think of things like climate and access to resources. The book also bears a message about mercy and why it is important to forgive people – we all do wrong things for so many different reasons; we don’t all get caught. When we understand the factors and disadvantages that many have experienced that led to their wrongdoings, we can exhibit more empathy.

What’s the one piece of advice you would give others about life?

Listen.
