DT Global recently joined leaders from the Australian Government and the international development, research, and technology sectors as a Gold Sponsor of Situation 2026. This event brought together innovators from across the Indo-Pacific to explore how artificial intelligence can help tackle some of the region's most pressing development challenges.
Hosted by the Development Intelligence Lab in partnership with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Canberra Innovation Network, the event challenged participants to consider: What Indo-Pacific development challenge could AI solve by 2031?
Eight DT Global representatives from both project and corporate teams attended the event, contributing insights from health, skills, governance, infrastructure and social protection programs across the Indo-Pacific. The team also showcased innovative work from DT Global and the Frontier Tech Hub, demonstrating how emerging technologies can support locally led development outcomes.
"We are honoured to be part of Situation 2026, connecting with changemakers and their innovative ideas that could contribute to positive outcomes in our region," DT Global Managing Director, Joanne Choe, said.
In her keynote address, Australia's Minister for International Development, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Minister for Small Business, the Hon Dr Anne Aly MP, emphasised that people must remain at the centre of technological innovation.
"When we talk about artificial intelligence in development, our starting point is not the technology. It is people. Their dignity. Their safety. Their agency. And the communities we are working alongside," she said.
Dr Aly also highlighted the importance of locally led solutions and ensuring countries own their development and digital futures. She reinforced that we should not “import solutions but empower countries to solve their own development challenges.”
For DT Global, Situation 2026 was an opportunity to showcase innovative work from across its programs and the Frontier Tech Hub, share lessons from the field, and engage in conversations about how technology can support practical, locally led solutions to development challenges across the Indo-Pacific.
