Introducing the Reimagining Motion Podcast

As many low-income countries see rapid and sprawling urbanization, how can transport infrastructures keep people and goods moving? Can the latest transport planning approach of transit-oriented development (TOD) be an answer to boosting economic growth without adding to transport-related climate stressors?

To answer these questions, the first season of our new podcast series, Reimagining Motion (available on any podcast outlet, including Spotify, iTunes, and Google Podcasts), explores the concept of TOD. In this four-part series (with the first two episodes released today), hosted by Holger Dalkmann, we speak with transport and urban development experts from around the globe. Reimagining Motion is created by the FCDO-funded High Volume Transport Applied Research Programme (HVT), implemented by DT Global.

TOD is a type of urban development that prioritizes the design of compact residential, business, and leisure options with close proximity to public transport. This enables urban residents to live closer to their jobs and the services they use, while reducing the time and environmental impact of commuting.

Over recent decades, TOD has become a trend in higher income countries. In this season, we explore if TOD can be beneficial in lower income countries, how it might be implemented.

The Reimagining Motion podcast will explore a range of transport-related themes in this and coming seasons through interviews with the experts, academics, and researchers who work on FCDO’s HVT Programme.
