Climate Ready for Big Ocean State Sustainability (BOSS)
Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Mitigation in the Pacific Islands
Challenge
Pacific Island Countries are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. At the same time, they lack sufficient resources and local capacity to effectively finance, plan, and manage investments to mitigate climate change and adapt to changing climate conditions and increased incidences of natural disasters.
Approach
Climate Ready BOSS was a successor to the US Government-funded Climate Ready project (2016-2023), which was also implemented by DT Global.
Climate Ready BOSS was envisioned as a regional climate finance platform that would provide flexible, on-demand technical assistance and transaction advisory to: 1) mobilize greater volumes of climate finance from diversified sources, 2) facilitate a more conducive enabling environment, and 3) strengthen local capacity to implement climate adaptation and mitigation projects in key sectors, such as fisheries, transport, tourism, energy, water and sanitation infrastructure, forestry, and agriculture.
Project Objectives
Climate Ready BOSS was intended to strengthen the capacity of Pacific Island Countries to adapt and respond to climate and disaster impacts. Primary objectives were to:
- Mobilize climate finance from public and private sources.
- Improve climate finance management through institutional strengthening and enhancing the enabling environment.
- Promote effective and streamlined coordination of climate finance through various partners and access modalities.
- Foster inclusive and equitable participation of indigenous communities and those most impacted by climate change, including women and children.
