Challenge

Uganda possesses significant deposits of energy transition minerals but faces many of the challenges common
to emerging mining jurisdictions: limited downstream processing, evolving governance arrangements and a need to translate geological potential into sustainable industrial development. GIZ engaged DT Global to identify practical pathways for building internationally competitive critical mineral value chains while maximizing domestic economic value.

Approach

DT Global is undertaking a comprehensive assessment of Uganda’s critical minerals sector, examining extraction,
processing, market competitiveness, governance systems, responsible sourcing opportunities and institutional
capacity. The analysis evaluates opportunities for value addition, beneficiation and industrial development while considering environmental, social and commercial risks across the full mining value chain.

Goal and Results

The assignment is providing Government and development partners with an evidence-based roadmap for prioritising strategic minerals, strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks, improving investment readiness, and
positioning Uganda as a competitive participant in rapidly evolving global critical mineral supply chains.
