Australia to Vote on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament

The positive outcome of the 1967 referendum righted longstanding historical wrongs to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in official counts of the Australian population.

The 2023 referendum provides the opportunity to build on this by seeking to constitutionally enshrine the “recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia”. This includes setting up a body “that may make representations to Parliament and the Executive Government of the Commonwealth on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples”.

DT Global is committed to reconciliation in Australia, and as allies in this process, we respect the diversity of views throughout the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. We encourage informed and educated decision making and will be supporting our staff by providing access to information on the upcoming referendum from reputable sources.

As a global organisation, we acknowledge that we have a responsibility to play a role, but that it is not our voice that needs to be heard. It is our responsibility to amplify First Nations voices in our country’s journey towards Makarrata.

We will listen to our First Nations staff, stakeholders, and community members, and do the work to build an Australia that we can all be proud of.
